Newton, NC April 8, 2010 - Jesse Wulf is a network administrator at Wisconsins Osceola Medical Center (OMC). Like his colleagues, he would be focused on health, but in his case, the health issues related to computers a network of 150 workstations and eight servers, to be precise. Already an avid AVG Anti-Virus user, Wulf had the migration of OMCs network virus protection from Symantec to AVG as a high priority when he came on board.
Past experience had shown me that Symantec didnt do as good a job of detecting viruses and keeping systems clean as AVG, recalled Wulf. It can literally be a matter of life and death if hospital computer systems are not available at all times, so the last thing we could afford was a virus, trojan or spyware shutting us down.
When OMC got a new mail server six months ago, Wulf had found the opportunity he needed to make the change. I was always on the edge of my seat with Symantec, waiting for something to get past them, so I was relieved to be able to move forward with the migration to AVG.

When Wulf went shopping for the best deal on an AVG Anti-Virus solution for the business, he ended up with a shortlist of two suppliers.
I was being offered a killer discount by one supplier, he noted. And then I came across Walling Data, who were clearly a leading distributor of AVG Anti-Virus products. That was the big question for me.

Uninstalling Symantec was a tedious chore, he says. I had to manually go to every single machine and uninstall the software, so I turned to the guys at Walling Data for help. They were able to walk me through some great short-cuts and I managed to complete the migration with almost no interruption in network service. Once we installed AVG Anti-Virus on all the machines, the very first scan for caught and removed viruses from quite a few machines which Symantec had certified as clean, he said. Sadly, this was not a surprise. What Ive found out through experience is that, nine times out of 10, if you install AVG on a machine that is running Symantec, McAfee, or any of the other big-name anti-virus software out there, AVG Anti-Virus will find something the others missed.
Wulf also appreciates the softwares miserly use of system resources and full range of functionality, along with the efficiency of the central administration console.
The best feature about AVG for me in a healthcare environment is to be able to see at a glance which machines are out of compliance in other words, their protection is up to date. HIPAA regulations require us to take all possible steps to safeguard our clients data, and Ive not found any other product that can tell me within ten seconds which workstations are non-compliant. So now, instead of having to either physically go to each workstation or scan through each and every workstation, I can go to one place using AVG and see right away which systems need updates, virus scans, or other tasks. It gives me a great overview of our network security.
