Question by Kimi L: soft has taken over my and won’t let me use the ?
First of all I am on a different then the infected one. Secondly my dad stupidly downloaded this soft onto our . Even though you guys will give me scanners and removers, the problem is the won’t even let us go on the , nor go on safe mode, what is the solution for this? I can’t even do system restore, how I can I renistall the whole hard drive?

Best answer:

Answer by Brian
How are you trying to do a system restore? Usually these ‘rogue programs’ will put “INFECTED” next to the system restore dates in the Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore menu. Even though it says ‘Infected’, it’s not. It’s just the making you think it is. Also, how are you trying to boot into safe mode? You shouldn’t have trouble doing this because the option to boot into safe mode should present itself (usually by pressing F8 repeatedly when starting up your ) before any program files have a chance to load.

Try going to the system restore menu and doing a restore to the most recent date PRIOR to the infection. Even if it says ‘Infected’ or something along those lines, try it, it should work.

Let me know if you need any more help!

It seems in these questions people simply bombard you with names of programs without explaining them, and you don’t know what to choose. The programs I suggest here will be perfectly capable at both removing any malware on your and keeping you safe in the future, assured:

It is best to download a main - program, as well as one or two - programs for the best protection -

The best free - program out there at the moment is called Avast! -. It has a wide range of features, very good and is the most trusted free - software.
AVG is also a good free - program, although it does not have as many features as Avast e.g. no rootkit protection. You can’t go wrong with either one though, so see which you like (i personally recommend Avast).

As well as an - program, it is good to download - programs to run alongside it. I would advise firstly you download Ad-Aware Free Anniversary Edition. This helps to stop and other nasties, is free, and has live-protection.
Finally, I advise you download Malwarebytes -Malware as well, as this is a very good free program that has an excellent reputation at removing malware.
Make sure you enable Live Protection on Ad-Aware. That way you have - with live protection, - with live protection, and another - that you can use to scan your occasionally just to keep it .

The ultimate protection plan list is therefore:

-
-Avast! (free) http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-…
or
-AVG (free) http://free.avg.com/download-avg--vi…

-
-Ad-Aware (free) http://www.lavasoft.com/
&
-Malwarebytes (free) http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes--Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button

Run scans once you have downloaded the programs to help out your , and then keep them on your and enable live-protection to stop your becoming infected again.

I also urge you not to download Norton - (you have to pay anyway). It can cause huge problems with installation, removal and updates. Also, I woldn’t advise using Spybot S&D, too much RAM usage for too little protection. Super - is good, but Malwarebytes is quicker and more user friendly. The programs I have suggested will protect you fine, you dont need more. You should also not download two or more - programs that have live protection, as this can cause security issues.

Hope all this helps =]
Good luck

Graham
