its “free” you get half of the updates for free and other half isnt. Whats the point? If you get some virus that isnt on the other half what is free your mac will be infected.

when this program first came out people were saying good things about it. now I see alot of bad reviews. I thought about getting this program but I use Iantivirus instead. I heard that this program from the app store is not free and you have to pay for the updates. is this true? People have told me that I don’t need antivirus for mac but there are a few viruses for mac and that is why I use a free antivirus.

I think your review is too comprehensive. Too much basic info, yeah? And watch the “uh… uh… uh…” moments if you want to clean it up. Just some ideas, but thanks for the effort anyway.

@gurubear8 the only way a virus can affect your data and all that, is that the exe has to be run, otherwise the virus doesnt spread so the mac is unaffected and the only ways those files get infected is through the exe file. but if the exe file is removed, which is not always easy, then the virus usualy stops affecting your computer, unless you have an uncommon virus that only needs one time to delete a system 32 file and completely ruin your os, but that is only pc

  7. gurubear8 says:

@morgothMM By the way. You said that viruses dont effect mac’s cause they dont run exe. Viruses can attack many things on a computer like data (your files), registry, services, MBR, Safari, e-mail, winsock, your firewall, and even your anti-virus software. They infect so many different areas to make them VERY difficult to remove and re-infection easier. As i said, its rare. But possible.
And please, you might know a lot about this.. But i know a lot as well.

  8. gurubear8 says:

@morgothMM. My point = ANY file can a virus. The reason for this is that when you open a file it has to be read by an exe file. If that exe file has a security vulnerability in the bit of the programming that does the parsing then the file being opened could be used to spread a virus.

  9. morgothMM says:

@gurubear8 haha .zip and rars are just compressed/ zipped up .exe’s and if you open the zip there is a exe inside and there is no harm to your computer unless you run the exe. trust me i know more about this than you and you don’t know how viruses work

  10. gurubear8 says:

@morgothMM , actually no…Even a rar or zip files can contain virus. yeah, a majority of viruses like to hide in exe. files.
viruses can affect any file. Not necessarily be exes…
by the way, i know exactly what im talking about..

Well since hackers are targeting mac osx and ios this year.. its recommended u get an antivirus for 2011 :P

  12. ipodappshelpyou says:

@Wowfreakzable they can get viruses just not pc viruses

  13. Wowfreakzable says:

isnt it mac’s which cant get viruses? :p

  14. PatsBama90 says:

Does this thing remove viruses too?

  15. morgothMM says:

@gurubear8 lol, the kind of virus that can do you harm in any way at all are .exe files and in other forms they are useless. even if a mac has a virus on it the virus can not be run so it is useless, i dont think you know what your talking about

  16. gurubear8 says:

@morgothMM any file format can have a virus in it..

  17. gurubear8 says:

any OS can get a virus.
is there a possibility a mac can get a virus?-YES
is it likely a mac will get a virus?-NO
it’s a strong 95% that you wont get a virus

  18. morgothMM says:

a virus cannot affect a mac, because macs do not run .exe’s

  19. PatrickWillShowYou says:

    macs dn need antivirus =)

  20. TheCompuGeeks says:

@kris200998 Yeah, I do admit that what people say about Macs not getting virus are mostly true. Although it’s better to be safe. It might not infect the Mac but if you have other device’s on the network it could spread through there.

  21. kris200998 says:

lol wtf antivirus for mac o_o ? why would you need antivirus for mac
